But I...Well, I trailed another instalment anyway... But I remain bemused that Sturgeon and Drakeford (until recently) get so much positive press compared with Johnson when there is so little difference in what they have done. After all, Sturgeon has gone for a regional, tiered approach. It will be interesting to see if she sticks with it. Drakeford, having promised that his circuit breaker would end on 9 Nov, now has to decide what to follow it with. And the UK results are much the same as most similar countries. Germany had looked different but is now also worried about its extremely well equipped health system getting overrun.
Johnson has at least attempted to balance the competing health and welfare issues. One of my points here was that Sturgeon and Drakeford have the luxury of not needing to worry about their economies so much.
What would I do? 1. Keep schools open almost whatever 2. Golf courses ditto 3. Er, I'm working on that.....

Phil Holdenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16426180519131561985noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3274202625019620620.post-45834404020227623082020-11-01T07:38:04.067+00:002020-11-01T07:38:04.067+00:00The trouble in the UK is that we started from a lo...The trouble in the UK is that we started from a low point in terms of confidence in our government. When you have a government politically fixed on one issue with all its Ministers of State sworn into post via their loyalty to deliver that one big issue - Brexit - then the outcomes for other matters, whatever they are, is always going to be poor.

That a government of even great wide ranging competence would have found this pandemic all but impossible to deal with is a given so one with such a narrow approach, you could say a single issue government, always meant bigger trouble and less confidence.

Is Drakeford wrong though or is he simple saying things you don't want to hear? Yes he's a boring 'undertaker' type of politician in a grey suit but so are Davey and Starmer. Oh, and by the way, it was Davey who was the first political leader to call for the kind of lockdown England now faces. Starmer only followed grey suit a couple of weeks later. I'm no lover of Davey but he's not getting the ‘credit’ over the new lockdown he deserves.

I hope you next instalment will define what your strategy is/will be as simply going back over recent history and saying they were all wrong does not allow us all to see how you would have handled things differently/more effectively if you were sitting in a seat of power.

Oh bugger, I've just realised I've just asked you to do another instalment!!!!...................:-)
Democracy Manhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11125575273547374747noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3274202625019620620.post-30905244005388607502020-10-28T07:31:22.144+00:002020-10-28T07:31:22.144+00:00Cliffhanger ending! Not sure enough people are aware that UK approaches are similar to most countries - which I know can't 100% absolve blame but politicians need to be able to make decisions without the blame game hanging over them. To be fair I'd be more interested in investigations into some of the seemingly outlandish amounts spent on crap PPE, test and trace and contracts for the old boys network than into number of deaths caused by when and how lockdowns were implemented.
Also worried that as normal the age group not really getting a say in policy are the ones who are likely to be most negatively affected (16-25).Mikey47https://www.blogger.com/profile/10205934469508637603noreply@blogger.com
